Sigma Lambda Beta sends its sincerest prayers and condolences to the victims, families and loved ones of the tragic event that took place in Orlando on Sunday morning. This horrendous event is another reminder that we far from a world of equality, that we still have a long fight against discrimination, and we cannot rest until our communities are treated justly without hate. While we are grateful that our local Brothers are all safe, we are rattled by the unnecessary losses of so many human beings.
As a fraternity founded on the basis of fairness, opportunity and the equality of all, we condemn the violence and hate that took away the dignity, peace of mind, and happiness of so many. It is during these times that we call upon our Brotherhood to continue living our creed by making a difference and impacting our communities.
To be silent is to remain complacent and now is the time to stand up and speak out against the injustices, the hate speech and the senseless rhetoric that have been plaguing our country. We are not powerless and together, not only can we make our voices heard, but we can bring about positive change. We are united by our values and must continue to work together to eradicate acts of hate and oppression in our communities from coast to coast.
One day we will live in a country that celebrates and empowers all of our differences. Until then, we remain committed to our mission of utilizing our historically Latino-based fraternity as a catalyst to better serve the needs and wants of all people.
Orlando, we stand with you,
Diego Back, Chairman Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity
