The Lambda Beta Chapter at Sam Houston State University in the South Region hosted their First Annual March Madness 3 vs. 3 Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, March 19th, 2014. The event was held on campus, in which the chapter was able to get 60 players and 16 teams to compete and participate. The event was a huge success and the chapter was able to raise $300.00, which will be donated to the St. Jude Children’s Foundation. The chapter has a long standing relationship with St. Jude in assisting with their fundraising efforts and community work in Texas. The Lambda Beta Chapter looks forward to hosting this event again and possibly other events to raise money for this great cause.
Here is what the Brothers thought about the tournament:
“The part that I loved the most about the event was that as soon as everyone heard that all proceeds would go to St. Jude Children’s Hospital they didn’t even hesitate in helping out. As well the Greek unity made this event very successful. We had Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. come out to support and made a donation, as well did Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. All the help from other organizations were really appreciated.” – Bro. Luis Castillo
“I personally believe this was a great turn out. I mean for it to be our first annual event we had more or less 60 players out there. What really made me happy about the event was that everyone was having fun. Even those teams who unfortunately lost in the first round had so much fun. We ended up deciding on the spot to make up a consolation bracket so that they can keep playing.” – Bro. Jesus Rodriguez
“I’m really proud of the outcome that we had for this event. Everything went so smoothly because everything was perfectly planned out. At first when we came up with the idea we really didn’t know how it was going to play out, but with all the hard work we put into it; it surely did pay off.” – Bro. Jorge Albino
On Behalf of Sigma Lambda Beta, we want to congratulate the Lambda Beta Chapter of Sam Houston State University for putting on a well attended event and raising a substantial amount of money for the St. Jude Children’s Foundation.
