Sigma Lambda Beta Announces New Executive Director
North Liberty, IA – June 30, 2017 – The Executive Board of Directors of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity has hired Xavier Romano as Executive Director effective July 4, 2017.
“Mr. Romano’s expertise in student engagement and his vision on strategic planning will set us apart from all other organizations,” said Diego Back, currently National Chairman of the Executive Board of Directors. “Mr. Romano’s ideas and passion to advance the fraternity will keep us at the forefront of success for years to come.”
Romano has a long track record of success in Higher Education most recently serving as the Vice President for Student Services at Eastern Oregon University. He’s also been a Director at Alliant International University and Vice President for Student Development & Dean of Students for Knox College. He holds a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Oregon and a M.A. in Educational Admin from Santa Clara University.
“I am grateful for the opportunity that Sigma Lambda Beta has given me and I see myself as a steward who will listen to the wants and needs of the membership. I look forward to engaging with brothers across the nation all while continuing to make Sigma Lambda Beta the premier fraternal organization on college campuses across the nation,” says Romano.
Reporting to the Executive Board of Directors, Romano will manage Sigma Lambda Beta’s Executive Office in its daily operations. He succeeds Brother Ricardo Cortez, who has decided to advance his career after serving the fraternity for the past 8 years. Cortez will aide in the transition of Romano into his role throughout July.
“For the past 8 years Ricardo has been a stellar asset to the organization. His leadership and continuity to move forward has set the foundation for the future. He will truly be missed, but we wish him success in the next chapter of his life,” said Back.
Over the past several months, a 7 person search committee comprising of current and past fraternity leadership vetted nearly 20 potential candidates to replace Cortez. This committee, which included current EBOD members, representation from Regional Directors, SLBEF, and other notable alumni presented its top candidates to the EBOD who unanimously approved Romano as the next Executive Director. “Romano is the best candidate to lead Sigma Lambda Beta,” Back said. “The EBOD and search committee took a thoughtful approach that our Brothers expected and deserved.”
Please reach out and congratulate Mr. Romano via email. For other inquiries, please reach out to Bro. David Ayento.
