Why join Sigma Lambda Beta?
Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. is the largest Latino based multicultural fraternity in the Nation.

It is the mission of Sigma Lambda Beta to recruit quality prospective members who are confident and not afraid to express or share their personal thoughts. They must be ready to grow not only as a person but also as a brother of the fraternity and a member of their community.

As members, brothers will learn to “open” their eyes and see the endless opportunities that are available to all people. Furthermore, they will share thoughts and ideas, and learn to recognize the potential that we, as a united whole, can and will exhibit in order to keep our shared values alive and working.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it take a lot of time?

Joining a fraternity is a life long commitment, but it provides a great opportunity to network, meet people from all over the nation, and help you develop leadership skills. Yes, as an associate member or as a full member, a fraternity can take up time. This should be seen as invested rather than wasted. Invested because it is a great opportunity to practice time management skills and leadership skills. You will also be interacting with other members and associate members forming bonds that will last a lifetime. Just remember your most hectic day and how you wished there was more time. Chances are you had plenty of time or you could have used it better. Involvement in a fraternity can help you learn to plan and prioritize your valuable time. I am not guaranteeing that you will be a time management expert, but at the very least you may have a better consciousness of it than before, which will enable you to take on the challenges of life. Bottom line, if you make time there will be time.

What are the costs associated with being a member?

Joining a fraternity does carry a financial commitment. Your dues pay for national fees, social activities and chapter expenses. We are self-supporting through dues paid by our members. Unlike other fraternities we do not have a house and therefore do not require some of the fees that those organizations may have, drastically reducing our cost in comparison. Please note that money should not be an issue in joining our brotherhood. We can make special arrangements upon discussion with the executive board.

What impact will the fraternity have on my grades?

Associate and full members are encouraged to set aside times where they can focus solely on their schoolwork. Associate and full members alike of similar majors find it helpful to study together. Academic schedules, of associate and full members, supercede those of the chapter. If an individual requires time to prepare and/or take an exam then he will be excused from any activities that may conflict. Prioritizing and using time management will aide in allowing a healthy blend of fraternal and academic pursuits.

What is expected of me once I become a member?

Expectations upon membership include attendance to a weekly business meeting and maintaining a minimum G.P.A. of 2.25. You will also be expected to aide the chapter in promoting it’s four principles of Brotherhood, Scholarship, Service and Cultural Awareness. There are a number of activities that the chapter is involved with throughout the semesters and requires that members help out in any way they can. Tasks are typically delegated by interest. We also encourage members to abide by federal, state and local laws as well as University of Florida student code of conduct.

What happens after graduation?

What ultimately happens after graduation is up to you. We have several alumni chapters throughout the country with new ones yet to be formed. There are District and International positions open to alumni brothers if they so decide to step up to the challenge. Our individual chapters and organization as whole will only grow stronger and enlarge its scope to the world with active alumni support. Our alumni base is a growing one with brothers graduating with both undergraduate and graduate degrees in a multitude of fields every semester. Established brothers may assist recent graduates in their job search. The brotherhood will always be there… It’s up to you with what you do with it.
