Sigma Lambda Beta is governed by a House of Delegates (HOD) that convenes every two years. In between this biennium, the HOD elects an Executive Board of Directors, comprised of five Directors and a Chairman, to represent the best interest of the Fraternity at large. Additionally, a Regional Director Caucus, comprised of nine Regional Directors, who oversee each region of the Fraternity.

Bro. Diego Back, Chairman
Brother Diego “Chapin” Back joined Sigma Lambda Beta in the Fall of 1999 at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles, CA. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 2002 from LMU. In December of 2005, Diego graduated from Law School and earned his Juris Doctor. In 2008, he earned his first Master of Arts degree in Bioethics, also from LMU. Later in 2010, he earned his second master’s degree, a Master’s of Science in Leadership and Management. Other positions Diego has held within the organization are Regional Director for 5 years, Chairman of the Southern California Alumni Network, and Ritual Education Committee member. He presently resides in Los Angeles and other than being involved with the organization, Diego loves to work out, travel, play soccer, and coach the game of soccer.
Bro. Anthony Ybarra
Brother Anthony “Chacho” YBarra resides in Manhattan, KS working as an Employer Relations Coordinator for Kansas State University. He received his Master’s degree in College Student Development in 2015, and received his undergraduate degree in Human Resources in 2004, both from Kansas State University. Anthony was initiated into Sigma Lambda Beta on April 26, 2003 as a member of the Phoenix line at the Phi Chapter. Currently serving in his second consecutive term on the EBOD, He has also served in many positions since graduating in 2004 including Chairman of the Mid-Atlantic Alumni Association, Lt. District Governor (now called Assistant Regional Director), and served five years as the Regional Director for the Midwest Region. Anthony enjoys traveling, interacting with brothers, and playing video games.
Bro. David Ayento
Brother David Ayento was born and raised in Chicago. He attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he majored in Communications and was initiated into the Kappa chapter of Sigma Lambda Beta on April 21, 2005. Currently serving in his second consecutive term on the EBOD, David has served in many leadership roles including being the Regional Director of the Central Region. David works for an industrial supply distributor in the Chicago suburbs. He recently completed his MBA from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill in June 2015 where he had concentrations in marketing, supply chain management, and sustainability. In his free time he enjoys watching NBA basketball, podcasting, traveling, cycling, and vinyl record collecting.
Bro. Brian Castro
Brother Brian Castro was born and raised in Puerto Rico. He attended Iowa State University and was initiated at the Omicron Chapter on December 16th, 2006. Previously, Brian served as an Assistant Regional Director of Operations in the Central Region from 2013-2015 and the served as the Regional Director for the Central Region from 2015-2017. He joined the Executive Board of Directors in January 2017. Brian graduated in May 2011 from Iowa State University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and also graduated in May 2014 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a M.S. in Civil Engineering. He currently works as a Project Engineer for OMEGA and Associates, Inc., an engineering firm based out of the Chicagoland area. In addition, he is also a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois. Brian is also a member of the SLB Chicago Alumni Network and the Old School Omicron Alumni Association.
Bro. Jason Smolka
Brother Jason Smolka joined Sigma Lambda Beta on December 21, 2001 as the captain of the resurrection line for the Omicron Chapter at Iowa State University. As a student Smolka would go on to complete a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering, a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Engineering, and a Master’s of Engineering in Systems Engineering from Iowa State University and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Chicago. Jason has a diverse fraternal resume including time spent as a member of the International Board of Directors, District Governor, Ritual & Education Committee Chairman and Assistant Executive Director. Professionally, Jason has spent time as an entrepreneur, engineer, hedge fund analyst, faculty member, and higher education administrator. He currently resides in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with his wife and three children where he serves as the Campus Director for Bryant & Stratton College.

Bro. Arifur Rob, Northeast
Brother Arifur Rob joined the brotherhood in the Fall of 2009 as a founding Brother at the City College of New York, known as the Alpha Epsilon chapter. He went on to obtain his Bachelors in Architecture and Business Management. Currently, Rob works as the senior project architect for BEST Safety Group Inc in Pine, NY and is co-owner of Aurora Arch & Designs with another fraternity brother. Fraternally, he has held positions as an undergraduate and alumni. They range from Alpha Epsilon executive board roles to assistant Greek advisor for the CCNY Inter Greek Council. He most prides himself with his involvement with the New Era Stroll Team. In his time as the Assistant Regional Director he oversaw New York Operations. He was a liaison for numerous regional conferences, Membership Educator, and coordinator of region wide socials. Rob hopes to bring regional operations, branding and recruitment up to contemporary standards.
Bro. Steve Galvan, EastBrother Steve Galvan crossed at the Epsilon Chapter at Western Michigan University on June 18, 2004 at 10:20:56 p.m. He earned his Associates of Arts degree from Kalamazoo Valley Community College, his Bachelors degree in History with a group Social Studies Minor with an emphasis on Secondary Education from Western Michigan University. He continued his education at Ferris State University where he earned his Masters degree in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction. He also earned his continuing administrative certificate from Andrews University. He is employed by Hartford Public Schools as a middle school and high school Social Studies Teacher. He currently resides in Hartford with his wife Melissa, his daughter Jaelyne, Mya, and his son Gianni Luis. In addition to teaching, Steve also coaches football and softball, and is the advisor for quiz bowl and chess club. In his spare time, he enjoys jogging and weightlifting, and spending time with family and friends.
Bro. Christopher Cooley, Southeast
Brother Christopher “Adhelmar” Cooley crossed at the Chi Delta Chapter at Mississippi State University in 2011. He majored in Wildlife, Fisheries & Aquaculture Sciences. He graduated in Spring 2013 and works for U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as a Wildlife Refuge Specialist in Savannah, GA. His goals for this term are to be the best resource to the Southeast Region as possible. With the help and insight provided through the RBOD, Christopher hopes to build on the solid foundation and infrastructure established by previous Regional Directors. Christopher hopes during his 2015-2017 term he can take the Southeast Region to new levels of success.
Bro. Daniel Mendez, Central
Brother Danny Mendez crossed at the Alpha Chapter at the University of Iowa. His commitment to the brotherhood can be expressed by the hard work he has done since his crossing night. From holding every position in his chapter as an undergrad, to graduating and stepping up into an executive board position for the Chicago Alumni Network (CAN). As the CAN VP of Ops he finalized the by-laws and constitution as well as developed the network’s grand marquee event, the Scholarship Banquet. After his time with CAN, he then centered his focus to bridging the gap between undergraduate brothers as an Assistant Regional Director of Ops for the Chicago area entities. Now, as he begins his term as the Central Regional Director, he hopes to continue the great strides that the region has been making the past 6 years. Professionally, Danny has been working in Higher Education for about eight years, and has been in his current position at the University of Illinois at Chicago for a little over six years. Personally, he enjoys playing competitive basketball, and working out since a healthy mind deserves a healthy body. But above all he enjoys spending time with his family.

Brother Daniel currently serves as the Director of the Mighty Midwest Region. He joined SLB at the Krazy Zeta Gamma Chapter at the University of Nebraska-Kearney in Kearney, Nebraska. Daniel graduated from the University of Nebraska-Kearney with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education. He is currently working on his Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Second Langauge. In his free time Daniel enjoys watching sports, with soccer being his favorite.

Brother Cortez joined Sigma Lambda Beta in 2012 at the Beta Epsilon Chapter at Oklahoma State University. In 2014, he graduated with Bachelors degrees in Biology and Spanish. Bro. Cortez has served the fraternity as president of the Beta Epsilon Chapter, Membership Educator, Assistant Membership Educator, Assistant Regional Director, and a member of the National REC Committee. In addition to Regional Director, Bro. Cortez currently serves as the alumni advisor of the Beta Epsilon Chapter and is an active member of the Houston Alumni Network. Bro. Cortez works as a high school biology teacher and plans to return to school to obtain a graduate degree. His personal mantra is “The more you do, the more you can do.”

Brother Eled Herrera joined Sigma Lambda Beta in the Fall of 2009 at the University of California, Irvine. He earned his Bachelors of Arts in 2013 in Criminology/Law and Society and currently is enrolled at California State University, Long Beach pursuing a Masters in Public Administration. Other positions Eled has held within the organization are Assistant Regional Director, Assistant Regional Director of Expansion, and active alumni member of the Los Angeles Alumni Network. Eled currently works as an Office Manager for Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) in the city of Los Angeles and other than being involved with the organization and work, Eled goes to the gym, hike, travel, and watch Netflix.
