Delta Alpha Chapter
Our history begins in the spring of 1995, when Davianni Cordero, a brother from Pace University, approached Yocari Lara and James Reed Jr. with the idea to start a new chapter of Sigma Lambda Beta Fraternity Inc. at Kean University. Kean, having a large Latino population, was a perfect place to have the largest Latino Fraternity in the United States. With this in mind, we jumped at the opportunity of expanding Sigma Lambda Beta to New Jersey. Throughout the remainder of the following semester we were educated on the ideals of this great fraternity. Then on May 11,1995 The founding line of Kean University “Premiere” began their education process. It was a long and arduous road that lasted 15 weeks, however on August 25, 1995 Kean University reached their goal.
The Founding Brothers at Kean University are Yocari Lara, Hector Vinasco, Helmer Zapata, James Reed Jr. Under the tutelage of their chapter advisor Juan David Alejo, the brothers at Kean University molded Sigma Lambda Beta into one of the leading Latino organizations on campus. Kean University officially became a chapter of Sigma Lambda Beta Fraternity Inc. on July10, 1996. The colony therein is recognized as the Delta Alpha Chapter.
