Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Incorporated, is an organization which emphasizes brotherhood, intellectual excellence,service, leadership and cultural awareness. The Fraternity was established on April 4, 1986 at the University of Iowa by 18 men. The Founding Fathers saw the need and feasibility for creating a Latino organization to disseminate and promote the rich Latino culture which we all share, in order to enhance the understanding of one another and advance the general welfare of the Latino population. The Fraternity's motto is "Opportunity for Wisdom, Wisdom for Culture". The Fraternity's colors are royal Purple and pure White and its mascot is a White Stallion Mustang. Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. is a young and growing organization which has accomplished a great deal in its existence.The Fraternity is a national fraternity and is actively part of the National Interfraternal Council (NIC) and is a chartering member of the Concilio Nacional de Hermandades Latinas/National Latino Greek Council (CNHL). The Fraternity spans across the United States in such locations as New York, New Jersey, Iowa, Florida, Minnesota, Texas, Illinois, Colorado, Indiana, Ohio, Arizona, Missouri, Rhode Island, Michigan, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Wisconsin, California, and the island of Puerto Rico totaling over 50 schools, making it the Largest Latino Fraternity that is found from "Coast to Coast".

The Northeast is a fast growing region for Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. Since the establishment of the SUNY at Stony Brook chapter in 1992, the Fraternity has expanded to eight other schools within the Northeast region and also including the N.Y. Alumni Chapter. Other schools in this region include Pace University-Manhattan, SUNY-Old Westbury, Johnson & Wales University, Kean University, New York City Technical College, Rutgers University-New Brunswick, Buffalo State College, and Pennsylvania State University. Currently the Fraternity is expanding to other schools within the Northeast region as well as the entire country.

Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. is committed to developing individuals to their fullest potentials in order to help serve the needs and wants of our people. As members, Brothers will learn to "open their eyes" to see the possibilities that are open to all Latinos, to share thoughts and ideas, and to recognize the potential that we as a united whole can and will exhibit in order to help keep our shared values alive and working. Each member has the responsibility to develop and utilize his own skills and assets in anyway that may contribute to the overall success of the fraternity, and more importantly help improve our community, our country, and the world.
