History of the District 
The “Mighty” Midwest District has a short, yet rich history.  The District is considered to be the oldest, yet one of the youngest Districts within Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Incorporated.  This is due to the fact that many of the entities that are established within the District are young while hosting three single letter Chapters alongside the Founding Chapter of the Fraternity. 

The establishment of the Midwest District can be attributed to the foundation set forth by the founding members of the Phi Chapter at Kansas State University in 1994.  Through their efforts, members of the Phi Chapter have been involved with the establishment of the other entities within the District.  These involvements eventually led to the establishment to three founding chapters in the states of Missouri, Nebraska, and Minnesota and two in the state of Kansas. 

Historically, the area known as the Midwest District was originally named the Mid-American Region, encompassing the active entities within the state of Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, and Colorado.  It was not until the 2000-2001 term that changes of the Regions nationwide took place.  The title of the area then known as the Midwest Region was renamed to the Midwest District, the state of Colorado was moved to the Southwest District, and the state of Iowa joined the Midwest.  The Midwest District currently consists of nine active Chapters and Colonies and one Alumni Association within the states of Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, and Nebraska.
