EXECUTIVE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Executive Board of Directors is the elected national leadership of Sigma Lambda Beta. Comprised of five board members and a Chairman, they are responsible for long term organization strategy, financial policies, and act with the best interest of the Fraternity in mind.

STEVE GALVAN
National Chairman
Brother Steve Galvan joined Sigma Lambda Beta on 6/18/2004 at Western Michigan University. As a student, Brother Steve attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College Associates of Arts degree. He continued his studies at Western Michigan University where he earned Bachelor’s degree in History (Social Studies) with an emphasis in Secondary Education, and a Master’s degree from Ferris State University in Curriculum and Instruction-Administrative Distinction. Professionally, Brother Steve has been a high school social studies educator for over fifteen years at Hartford High School in Hartford, MI where he currently also coaches football and softball. Brother Steve resides in Hartford, MI with his wife Melissa, and children Jaelyne Mya, Gianni Luis, and Nico Elias.
MAURICIO M AMARAL-VAZQUEZ
Board Member
Brother Mauricio Amaral-Vázquez joined Sigma Lambda Beta on July 17, 2009 at 11:51:02 at The Terrible Tau Chapter at CSU Dominguez Hills. In the past Brother Mauricio has served as Chapter President, Chapter Advisor, Regional Director, Small Group Facilitator at three Leadership Institutes, and on the previous board. As a student, Brother Mauricio would go on to complete two Bachelor's Degrees in English Literature and Journalism from CSU Dominguez Hills in 2021, and a Masters in Urban Education with a concentration in Administration from Loyola Marymount University in 2018. Professionally, Brother Mauricio is an educator and community organizer; as he was an in classroom teacher in Los Angeles and Oakland for a total of five years, and has served as in various political campaigns including national campaigns like Obama ‘08 & Hillary ‘16 as well as local campaigns like No on 8 ‘08, Measure AA ‘18, Janani for Assembly ‘21 to name a few. Currently Brother Mauricio works in the Nonprofit sector at the National Organization Teach for America where he leads community engagement and events in Northern California. Brother Mauricio resides in Oakland, CA with his Dog.
Tony Jackson
Board Member
Brother Tony Jackson(He/They) joined Sigma Lambda Beta on April 17, 2016, as a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Delta Delta chapter. As an undergraduate, he was looking for a brotherhood that would help him find community and a sense of belonging on such a large campus. During his undergraduate career, he held several positions, including Treasurer, Vice president-external, and his most accomplished position as President of the Multicultural Greek Council. He graduated in 2018 with a B.S. in Retailing & Consumer Behavior, and a B.A. in Spanish Language & Literature. Since graduation, he has continued being an active member of Sigma Lambda Beta holding positions such as Regional Director and Alumni Advisor for his chapter. In his position on the board, Brother Jackson hopes to continue fostering an accepting environment for undergraduates to find their place in Sigma Lambda Beta the way he was able to, as well as, create a sense of transparency for the brotherhood both Alumni and undergraduates, alike. He currently works in healthcare IT as an Implementation Project Manager, and resides in Southern California.
Edwin Mendez-Rodriguez

Brother Edwin “Betus” Mendez-Rodriguez, joined Sigma Lambda Beta In the Fall of 2017 at our Phablous Phi Alpha Chapter, at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Brother Edwin earned his Bachelor's in Business Management from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. As an undergrad Edwin was elected and served as chapter Treasurer and President. Professionally, Brother Edwin is an entrepreneur and a Student Services Specialist at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Brother Edwin enjoys watching and playing sports, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
CHRISTOPHER COOLEY
Board Member
Brother Christopher Cooley joined Sigma Lambda Beta on 08/12/2011 at the Chi Delta Chapter, Mississippi State University. As a student, Brother Christopher would go on to complete a BS, in Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Sciences from Mississippi State University in 2013. Professionally, Christopher works for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service as a Refuge Manager. Christopher resides in the Southeastern US. Prior to serving on the EBOD, Brother Christopher served as the Southeast Regional Director from 2015-2020.
JOSE PANGELINAN
Board Member
Brother Jose "El Protector" Pangelinan crossed on December 4, 2011, 5:20:15 at the "Die Hard" Lambda Delta Chapter at The University of Texas at San Antonio. As a collegiate, Bro. Jose held many positions within his chapter and the Multicultural Greek Council. His experiences as an active undergraduate Brother played a large factor in his decision to work at the Executive Office of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity. In 2015, Bro. Jose graduated with his Bachelor's degree in Psychology and departed to North Liberty, Iowa to work as the Director of Member Services for SLB.
Throughout his time at the Executive Office, Bro. Jose oversaw various regions such as, East, Midwest, Northeast, Northwest, South, Southeast, and Southwest. Additionally, he was in charge of expansion and overseeing a wide range of investigations surrounding hazing, sexual misconduct, and other Brother related allegations. He left the Executive Office to pursue his Master's degree in Adult and Higher Education at the University of South Dakota in the Summer of 2021.
Today, Bro. Jose Pangelinan is currently working as the Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life at Arizona State University.
JASON SMOLKA
Board Member
Brother Jason "Maestro" Smolka, joined Sigma Lambda Beta on 12/21/2001 at our Omicron Chapter, at Iowa State University. Brother Smolka holds three degrees from Iowa State; a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, a Bachelor's in Computer Engineering and a Master's in Systems Engineering. He also received his MBA from the University of Chicago in 2009. Professionally, Brother Smolka has been an engineer, entrepreneur, consultant and college administrator. He has spent time working for small start-ups and global Fortune 100 companies. Throughout his life Brother Smolka has lived in Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Texas, Ohio, and Wisconsin and still enjoys traveling and learning about new places and cultures on a regular basis. Today, Brother Smolka is proud to call the Chicagoland area home, where he lives with his wife and three school-age children.
IAN AVILES
Board Member (Undergraduate Representative)
Brother Ian Aviles joined Sigma Lambda Beta on 10/31/2021 at the Revolutionary Zeta Beta Chapter at the University of Florida. Since joining, Brother Ian has served as the Vice President of Communications and Vice President of Programming. He also served as one of the chapter representatives at the 2022 BetaCon National Convention. At the University of Florida, Brother Ian studies Information Systems, where he has completed two internships with Disney Cruise Line (2022) and Bank of America (2023). On his campus, he has been involved with the Hispanic-Latino community as an Executive Director for the Hispanic Student Association’s Welcome Assembly and President of the Ecuadorian Culture and Heritage Association. Originally from Kissimmee, FL, and happy to make his family proud, Brother Ian looks forward to his graduation and finding his first full-time job in the data analytics industry.

Southeast
Brother Johnny joined Sigma Lambda Beta on 11/16/2014 at Gamma Gamma Chapter, The University of Central Florida. As a student, Brother Johnny would go on to complete a BS in Sports & Exercise Science from The University of Central Florida. Professionally, Johnny is an Environmental Health Specialist at the Kennedy Space Center assisting with the protection and prevention of employees from health hazards. Johnny resides in Orlando with his wife.
JAVIER IBARRA
Southwest
Brother Javier Ibarra joined Sigma Lambda Beta on 4/18/2014 at the Xi Delta Chapter, Metropolitan State University of Denver. As a student, Brother Javier would go on to complete a B.S. in Business Management with a concentration in Entrepreneurship from Metropolitan State University of Denver. Professionally, Javier works for the Colorado State Department of Education as the Communications Manager. Javier lives in Denver with his two dogs and is currently engaged.
LUIS JARQUIN
West
Brother Luis Jarquin joined Sigma Lambda Beta on 12/09/2018 at the Kappa Beta Chapter, at the California State University, Long Beach. As a student, Brother Luis would go on to complete a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the California State University Long Beach. Professionally, Luis works as a Manufacturing Engineer for an international sealing components and service provider company with experience in Automotive and Aerospace fields, Luis resides in Santa Ana, CA. In Luis' free time, you can find him engaging in community service or at an Angels game!
JAMES TERRONEZ

Brother James “Terrónez” Terronez joined Sigma Lambda Beta on 4/11/1996 at the Mighty Xi Chapter, University of Illinois at Chicago. As a student, Brother James would go on to complete a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from St. Ambrose University. Professionally, James works for Avient in West Chicago as a Production Scheduling Manager. He has 4 boys (1 legacy), 1 daughter (attending University of Illinois), and two granddaughters who reside in the Quad Cities. James resides in Woodstock, IL, with his fiancée and her son. In his spare time, he shoots pool, plays fastpitch softball, runs, lifts weights, and supports his favorite teams (Cubs, Bears and Bulls).
SANTIAGO GAYTON
East
Santiago became a brother in Spring 2003 at the Alpha Gamma Chapter (Grand Valley State University). He earned his Master of Arts (2009) in Education Administration and Leadership from the University of the Pacific and his Bachelor of Arts (2006) in Political Science from Grand Valley State University. After his career in Higher Education, he entered the Non-Profit world and currently serves as the Program Officer for the Steelcase Foundation. Santiago enjoys being involved in the West Michigan community, seeing live music, and all four seasons of the Midwest.
EDWIN O. MARTINEZ VELASQUEZ

Brother Edwin joined Sigma Lambda Beta on 05/01/2010 at Omicron Chapter, at Iowa State University. As a student, Brother Edwin would go on to complete a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Iowa State University, and pursuing an M.S. in Human Computer Interaction from Iowa State University. Professionally, Edwin is a software engineer with experience in gaming and consulting spaces. Edwin resides in Des Moines, Iowa with his wife and two dogs.

Northeast
Brother Austin Rodill joined Sigma Lambda Beta on 11/16/2013 at Omicron Alpha Chapter, The Pennsylvania State University. As a student, Brother Austin graduated with a BA in Political Science and a minor in Criminal Justice. Professionally, Austin is a Property Manager and oversees a high-rise apartment community and a commercial retail space. Brother Austin resides in Philadelphia, PA, with his dog, Luna. In Brother Austin's free time, you can catch him either at the Phillies game or at the shore.
ARICK ERECHAR
Northwest
Brother Arick joined Sigma Lambda Beta on 03/14/2015 at the Pi Gamma Chapter of Eastern Washington University. As a student, Brother Arick would go on to complete a BA in Sociology and an MPA from Eastern Washington University. Professionally, Arick works for a nonprofit where he facilitates two youth advocacy groups that work with homeless and foster youth. Arick resides in Cheney, WA with his wife and son.
JACOB VELOZ
South
Brother Jacob Veloz joined Sigma Lambda Beta on 05/06/2016 at the Epsilon Beta chapter, at Texas Tech University. As a student, Brother Jacob would go on to complete a B.A. in English from Texas Tech University, and obtain a J.D. from Oklahoma City University School of Law in May of 2023. Jacob resides between Norman, Oklahoma and Fort Worth, Texas.
