Thank you for your interest in Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity. Since April 4th, 1986, our Fraternity has grown from a single chapter at University of Iowa to a boasting 110 collegiate entities that stretch across 28 states from California to New York, Florida to Washington and even reach the shores of Puerto Rico. This growth can be attributed to the efforts of collegiate men who believe in the ideals for which Sigma Lambda Beta stands, and the programs it promotes. We exist to establish a family away from home that exists to foster academic excellence, leadership, and the dissemination of the rich culture we all share. Our philosophy is best summarized by our motto: “Opportunity for Wisdom. Wisdom for Culture.”
If you are interested in joining, but Sigma Lambda Beta is not established at your university, you can take the initiative in bringing Sigma Lambda Beta to your campus.
As an organization, we are working diligently to ensure that we continue to move in a direction that will impact our communities. Though we welcome others to join us in our mission, we demand that those committing to the expansion of Sigma Lambda Beta be ready to exert the energy, planning, time and motivation that are necessary to properly build a solid foundation required for the success of our collegiate entities. Although the process is not a simple one, the rewards are well worth the effort.
As a general rule, we require the following:
- A group of at least six (6) committed men who share the same ideals of Sigma Lambda Beta, and are interested in bringing Sigma Lambda Beta to their campus;
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.50 per interested man;
- Thorough knowledge of the expansion policies and guidelines pertinent to your campus and the appropriate governing council at your campus;
- An initial working relationship with the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life, or similar office to express your interest in proceeding with expansion;
- Complete a Petition for Colony Status.
