What is 86 Club?
The 86 Club is a new initiative by the Executive Board of Directors that will help fulfill the goal of Alumni Support. A contribution of $1986, will allow the fraternity to hire and support the needs of a new staff member whose primary objectives will be to look for grants and support alumni initiatives. This new staff member, the Director of Donor Development, will raise money for the fraternity in hopes of not solely relying on undergraduate dues. This new income generated by the Director of Donor Development will help fund new staff positions like the Director of Alumni which will be the dedicated staff member for alumni and Alumni Networks and Associations. The Director of Donor Development will also help fund fraternity programs such as the Young Stallions Club and Leadership Institute.
It is a “lifetime” membership program that comes with tangible perks and gifts, along with the intrinsic value of knowing that your gift helped the fraternity get to the next level. The 86 club will consist of a class each year of its existence, beginning with the Founder's Class. A Brother who contributes the full amount of $1986 by April 4th will be considered a member of that year's class.
The 86 Club is the next step to help in getting Sigma Lambda Beta in to the next level of Alumni Engagement and Support. It will be the catalyst that allows our Alumni membership grow and thrive, while at the same time help our undergraduate Brothers in their programs and events.
Why Should I join?
As a brotherhood, we have grown beyond what many have ever thought we would. With a full independent office, with full-time staff members, we are the standard of the Latino Greek Experience. While this accomplishment is great, we should not stop there. We consistently talk about giving beyond our undergraduate experiences, as well as being a “brother for life!” This is a great way to make sure that we not only help with the extrinsic expectations of our brotherhood, but also put in to practice what we preach! The 86 Club is not a request for funds, but rather a call to action!
What are the benefits?
To be a part of the 86 Club and the recognition is a benefit in and of itself, however we also know that we all like all tangible things, so we have the following items that will be included in your membership:
- 86 Club Pin
- Exclusive colorway of the Sigma Lambda Beta key
- 86 Club challenge coin
- Diploma quality certificate
- Membership card
- Free access to the gallery at the House of Delegates meeting at Betacon
- Free ticket to the Betacon banquet
- Access to the 86 Club store with exclusive merchandise
- And more!
Q: How much is it to join the 86 Club?
A: A contribution of $1,986 is needed to be paid in full, either through payment increments or one lump sum.
Q: Why do we need this to fund Alumni initiatives when we have saved so much money?
A: Currently all Executive Office positions are funded primarily through Undergraduate Dues. The funds raised through this initiative by Alumni will help to cover Alumni initiatives, as well as to help take the stress of the fraternity off of the backs of our undergraduate members.
Q: Is this a tax-deductible donation?
A: No. Since this will go in as an operational position to the Executive Office, this contribution cannot be used as a tax-deducted donation.
Q: Is this Life-Time Dues program mean that I no longer have to pay dues as an alumnus?
A: This program covers all National dues. This program does not exempt a Brother from their own local Alumni Network or Alumni Association dues.
Q: So since I am making this large contribution, do I need to give anymore?
A: We hope so! We know that this contribution is a large sum for many brothers, however we should not stop giving to the SLB Educational Foundation, your local chapter, and other organizations affiliated with Sigma Lambda Beta. This program is meant to support a specific task and target, and is not an all encompassing program that will benefit each and every initiative set forth by the fraternity.
Q: Where does the money go?
A: The money will go towards funding a Director of Donor Development that will serve as a fundraiser who can help the Executive Office carry out it’s mission with the undergraduate and alumni population. The Director of Donor Development will also help to work with Alumni Initiatives, and Alumni Networks in their search for funds to help their own specific programming. Eventually, funding will be made for a specific Executive Office staff member to help support the needs of our Alumni, without taking away from the job duties of our staff whom work with our undergraduate brothers.
Q: When will the gifts and benefits kick in?
A: We are going to be announcing the full Founder's class at BetaCon 2018, at our annual awards dinner. You will be recognized before the entire brotherhood, and your items will be given to you at that time. However, your benefits as a Club 86 member begin as soon as the full amount of $1,986 is paid.
Q: Who do I contact for more information?
A: Please feel free to contact the Executive Office, or Brother David Ayento for more information about this program.
